Animo
Green

A student from De La Salle Zobel, (or any La Salle school for that matter) can be distinctly spotted amidst a frenzied crowd. Perhaps, this Lasallian has got a green jacket on, matched with a pair of green shoes, and has a green triangular banner clinched on his hands. Or maybe you’ll spot this Lasallian because her face is pretty familiar since you see it everyday on television, endorsing a product in a certain commercial. Or perhaps, you are certain that this person is from La Salle because he speaks smartly and nattily. If you want to know if really are a true blue…err…green Lasallian, then here are some quirks:

1) Committed.
We give priority to certain roles given to us, such as being the prestigious class president (who undyingly gives out “ssshhhh..-es” to the class with the help of his/her trusty vice) or by simply being the day’s board monitor. We see to it that every ‘chalked’ spot on the pretty messy blackboard is erased, and this is because we are internally motivated by our commitment.

2) Competent.
Whether it be a battle between group presentations in class, or high school cheering competitions, we Lasallians give it our all. I quote from our handbook, “We are aware of our shortcomings, but strive to overcome them”, and indeed we do. Even though at times, our jaws drop whenever we see our rival group’s far-fetched routine, we still work hard and gain the guts to give it our best shot.

3) Confident.
“Ah yan! Mayabang yan! Lasalyano eh…” We often hear these snide comments whenever we pass by people who are “strangers” to us. We have to admit that this connotation, about Lasallians being domineering or bossy is perhaps true for a very few, but majority of us are indeed confident and proud for we are aware of our resilience and principles. We are not “full of air” but instead we are full of pride (which isn’t adverse) because we bring the name of our beloved school with us. We believe in our abilities, we display them with grandeur, and thus this virtuous trait of Lasallians should be what others see in us.

4) Compassionate.
“Sinong may tissue? Liquid paper? Fan? Experiment paper?” Whenever these questions are asked, we always try to extend a helping hand. We are aware of other people’s needs. We go on outreaches, immersions, and the likes, to show our compassion. We respect our environment and society. Once in our grade school years, we were tasked to memorize the names of various plants right? Okay, so we don’t exactly remember those things anymore, but this has changed the way we look at our surroundings and truly, our concern has deepened.

5) Christian.
Not exactly every one of us has a rosary in his or her pocket (which is supposed to be one of the trademarks of Lasallians), but when we do pray our 6-decade rosaries, we do it earnestly. Whom of us will ever forget our “I will continue…’s” and responses to “St. John Baptist De La Salle/Live Jesus in our hearts”? We live our faith and we strive hard to be exemplary Christians.

6) Others.
Perhaps you can combine all those 5 C’s to classify these qualities:
· Our competence is put to the test when it comes to various fields, for example, sports. We are die-hard sports fanatics, whether be it basketball (NBA, UAAP) billiards (Efrens, Paengs, places in BF) soccer (Gothia Cup), swimming, etc. Name it and we’ve got it covered. When it comes to rivalry, I think nothing could beat the hype of our competition with Ateneo. This strife has gone on for years. The battle of the BLUE and GREEN may never cease. At times, people tend to throw accusations, malevolent comments, or biased remarks to these 2, but hey, we’re still here. Still alive and still on for the fight.
We never fail to watch UAAP games, and we never get tired of cheering for our fellow Lasallians. Our “Bumakayas” and “Animos” are echoed throughout to show our support. These sports events are turned into battlegrounds of the advocates. Some cry after defeats, and many jump for joy when we come out victorious. But whether we win or lose, the spirit of Lasallian sportsmanship remains.
