Of princes and heroes..
Aack. Stress.
I woke up at around 8 this morning, and guess what I did?
I worked on the most astonishing, amazing, incredible, extraordinary thing…ever! *sarcasm intended*
I made a script for my grade 7 brother…
Guess what the story was…
Ibong Adarna.
:O
Yea the majestic bird who’s poop makes everyone turn hard…I mean, like a stone.
It was excruciating, I tell you.
The story was ok…I guess. For a story to be read by every student in this poor country…well, that’s an achievement right?
And I have nothing against local literature for we do have great, great, great writers.
It’s just that…princes and magic…ang kings and kingdoms…they make me dream about them more.
I used to dream about being a princess. And I think every girl still wearing her pigtails does dream of becoming one.
The idea of having to wear lavish gowns, being the most beautiful girl in your kingdom, and having your knight-in-shining-armor come to your rescue…well, ain’t that every girl’s dream?
Though fairy tales and stories such as Ibong Adarna always end up with the oh-so-overused line “…and they lived happily ever after”, when reality checks in, the “happily-ever-afters” tend to be short-lived.
We’ve all had our happy moments with our princes/princesses.
Once in a while, we find ourselves floating in cloud nine, with our eyes twinkling like flashy Christmas lights, and with our smiles stretching from ear to ear because of the things which just simply make us happy.
It’s at times like these wherein we see life as the most wonderful thing in the world…we give out our sighs and say, “Life is definitely worth living” *grin*
But then…
There are those times when we just simply get this intense urge to jump of the highest cliff and end up sitting right next to Satan in hell. Burn in flames. Burn. Then burn some more.
We want our whole bodies to be charred like my tita’s overcooked patties and just let our stupid emotions and feelings burn with our souls.
I don’t know. I guess you can erase the “sitting right next to Sata” part…but wouldn’t you agree with that?
We do get that feeling sometimes, right?
But I guess we won’t be able to cook ourselves like that until we face death…so the least we can do while we’re still able to inhale the air around us in this seemingly-cruel world, is just live…and live with whatever we have in our lives.
Just go through the dark forests…
Fight the evil knights…
Battle the big dragon…
Go through the raging seas…
Cross the hanging bridge…
Finally find your prince or princess in the tower…
And just defy fate.
Either you follow the path that’s been laid down for you…
Or you defy destiny and make your own road.
That’s what makes a certain prince stand out for me.
You may not be the man of steel like Superman, but you may possess extraordinary strength…inside.
You may not be able to move fast like the Flash, but you may have an open mind that’s ready to respond to any situation…without having to wait for a million years before you make a decision.
You may not be able to swing from building to building like Spiderman, but you may have the ability to jump from one obstacle to another using your wit and brawn.
I may seem out of line here already…but I see princes not just as the heir to the throne…or the bachelor in the palace…
In all the tales that I’ve read since I was a kid…these princes are destined to be heroes
Heroes may not necessarily be superheroes…
Superheroes may not be princes either…
Real-life princes may be out of our reach…
But once you see the real hero in that one person…that certain person...
that’s when you turn to your heart and say, “I want to be your damsel in distress…”

*“I was no supergurl…but he needed a hero..”*
